Privacy Policy
How WakilKu handles data. The short version: no accounts, no ads, and we collect as little as we can.
WakilKu is an independent, non-partisan project. You can browse the whole site without an account, without signing in, and without giving us your name. This page explains the limited data the site does handle and why.
Analytics
We use PostHog, a privacy-focused analytics tool, to understand how the site is used: which pages are viewed, which seats are searched, and whether people read in Malay or English. This data is hosted in the European Union. It includes your approximate location (city and country, worked out from your IP address, not your exact location), your browser and device type, and the page that referred you. PostHog stores a small identifier in your browser so repeat visits are not double-counted. We do not use advertising trackers and we do not sell this data to anyone.
When you suggest a correction
Each candidate page has a tool to suggest a correction or add a source. When you use it, we store the link and details you submit, and an optional contact only if you choose to give one. To keep out spam, we also store a one-way hashed version of your IP address (not the address itself) and your browser's user-agent string. We use these submissions only to check and improve the candidate information.
What we do not collect
No user accounts, passwords, or logins. No payment details, because nothing on the site is for sale. No marketing emails. We do not build advertising profiles and we do not share your data with ad networks.
Where the data is kept
The site runs on Vercel. Analytics are held by PostHog in the European Union. Correction submissions are kept in a hosted database. We keep analytics for a limited period, and correction submissions for as long as needed to verify and act on them, then remove what we no longer need.
Your rights
Under Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010, you may ask what data of yours we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to remove it. Because we collect so little and store no accounts, most requests are simple. You can reach us through the correction tool on any candidate page, and a dedicated contact channel will be added here.
Children
WakilKu is general election information for voters and is not directed at children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site grows to new states and features. When we do, we will change the date below.
